Anchor Pub , Ropley is undergoing a refurb, the pub is within walking distance of the cottages and will be a welcome additional to the village and community of Ropley – Plans are for opening May / June 2014.
As many of you will have seen, the sale of the Anchor has been finalised and the new owners are busily carrying out the repairs needed to the roof and structure of the building. The Raise the Anchor Community Interest Company (CIC) has briefly engaged with the new owners and we understand that as the initial works progress they will be sharing their plans for the Anchor’s renovation and re-opening. It is understood that the skittle alley will remain (with cosmetic improvements being made) and that a good quality family restaurant facility will be included. At this time it is rather early for them to share detailed plans on layout, look and feel etc, but they have expressed an interest in working with the community in a manner which will hopefully benefit us all. Once the owners have a better feel for the extent of the work necessary they will let us know more detail of their plans.
Many of you may be asking why there is a need for a CIC, given that the previous sponsored purchase with Creative Catering failed. The CIC’s remit includes ways to represent the interests of the community with the new owners of the Anchor and the CIC remains keen to carry out this remit as far as is sensible with the support of the new owners. The precise level of involvement with the Anchor will need to be revised and managed over time but the CIC remains committed to supporting both the community and the new owners in ensuring that the Anchor is a success and we can enjoy all the benefits of a decent village pub at last. To this end the CIC members will continue to liaise with the new owners over the next few weeks and it is hoped that further updates can be shared on www.myropley.org.uk and in the forthcoming issues of BMRT.
